Jammu:24 Feb 2018: In the lead up to its 2nd anniversary celebrations of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspecialty Hospital organised an interschool health quiz competition Young Brains on February 24th 2018 at Teachers Bhawan here in Jammu. This is one of the many activities undertaken by the hospital in its its endeavour to create awareness towards healthy life style and to promote awareness towards health in students, keeping with the hospitals vision of Health for All, All for Health.
The event was inaugurated by Mr. Farooq Ahmed Shah (IAS), Secretary Education, J&K Government. Other dignitaries including Mr. Swarn Singh, District Education Planning Officer & Mrs. Razia ,Principal Nodal Officer were also present. The officials from the Hospital included Dr. (Brig) Man Mohan Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Manu Ramachandar, Facility Director and Dr. Saumya Ahuja, Medical Superintedent.
During his address Secretary Education Mr. Farooq Ahmad Shah said Education is an important pillar for betterment of society and helps overcome many social evils such as corruption & ignorance. Along with advances in education in J&K, healthcare has also taken a leap in the state with the development of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspecialty Hospital. We appreciate the efforts of SMVD Narayana Superspeciaity hospital for organising this event to bring about health education and health awareness amongst young students.
More than 250 students from around 30 schools , classes 9-12 from Jammu, Samba and Udhampur participated in this unique approach of hospital to spread the message of healthy lifestyle among the upcoming future of society.
A session on Basic Life Support (BLS) was organised by Dr. Sumit Sharma, Department of Emergency Medicine as part of the event to provide an orientation to the youngsters regarding essential skills in providing first aid to critical patients in absence of medical professional help.
The quiz was conducted in 3 rounds – preliminary, semi-finals and finals. The final round had 6 teams participating. Mr Sunny Deol & Mr.Gaurav Kumar from Sainik school Nagrota secured first position while Mr Eshan Tandon & Ms. Rishika Sharma from SOS Hermann Gmeiner School & Ms.Sugandh Sharma & Ms. Neha Kumari from Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Canal Road secured 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. Winning teams were felicitated with Trophies and Cash Prizes.
Reputed quiz master Mr. Vishnu Rao from Greycaps, Bangalore quizzing agency conducted the event with great enthusiasm and was well appreciated by all students.
Chief Administrative Officer of SMVD Narayana Superspeciality hospital Dr. (Brig.) Man Mohan Harjai conveyed that this quiz contest is one of the many school awareness programs being conducted by the hospital and the hospital would be organising such activities in next academic session at district levels also so that message of healthy living can be spread out to each segment of society.
