Jammu, February 6: Sham Lal Choudhary Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control called upon the people to save and secure water for the ensuing generation, terming water as unique gift of God he reiterated that it is duty of all human beings not to waste water and use it judiciously. He was speaking in an Advocacy workshop organized by National Development Foundation with support from Communication and Capacity Development Unit, Deptt. of PHE, I & FC, J&K Govt. at Irrigation Guest House Baspur Suchetgarh. Minister further appealed people not to pollute water resources, rivers and canals. He regretted that despite massive Swachh Bharat campaign people throw garbage in the Irrigation canals and other water bodies. He quoted the example of Ranbir Canal and requested people not to throw garbage in it as the garbage and plastic chokes water supplies to the fields and contaminate it for other purposes. He also asked people to use toilets and avail the facility of Individual household latrine from Rural Development Department. Other resource persons who spoke during the workshop include SE Hydraulic Jammu Er. Jagdish Singh Chib, Founder Emeritus National Development Foundation Mr. Rajiv Khajuria, Executive Engineer PHE Rural Er. Rajesh Gupta and Er. Gopal Sharma from CCDU.
SDPO R.S. Pura Mr. Surinder Choudhary, Tehsildar Suchetgarh and others sectoral officers and prominent citizens participated in the programme. About 300 people were present on the occasion. A cultural programme “Jatar” conveying the message of water, sanitation, hygiene and Water testing through Field testing kit was also done on the occasion. A pledge on water conservation and water safety was also taken during the programme.
