Red alert in Hiranagar sector after men in fatigues sighted

A red alert was sounded along the 198-km International Border in the Jammu region after suspicious movement of three or four militants was observed in the Hiranagar sector.The Border Security Force and J&K Police have launched massive search operations in the area.A BSF sentry posted at the Bobiyan border outpost (BOP) had observed suspicious movement of three or four persons in Army fatigues. “The movement was observed near the Tarnah stream, between Bobiyan and Londi BOPs, after which the search operations were launched,” said a source.Briefing mediapersons about the operations, BSF Inspector General, Jammu Frontiers, Ram Avtar said, “Around 10 pm on Sunday, we got information about the suspicious movement. We have alerted personnel, including the neighbouring BOPs, and the police and Army also. The search operations are going on but nothing has been found yet.”He said there was no breach of the fence installed along the International Border.Terrorists from across the border have used the Hiranagar sector to infiltrate and target security forces in the past. The Jammu-Pathankot national highway is also located very close to the border.On September 26, 2013, three terrorists had killed policemen during an attack on a police station at Hiranagar after infiltrating from the Bobiyan BOP. Thereafter, they had hijacked a truck and struck at an Army camp near Samba town. During the attack, 10 persons, including a senior Army officer, were killed. The terrorists were gunned down after a day-long battle.In another attack on March 28, 2018, three terrorists had killed a civilian and injured three others after infiltrating from across the border. Later, they were gunned down by the Army near the Janglote camp in Kathua.
