JAMMU: Bhartiya Janta party (BJP) Vice President Yudhvir Sethi today said that the parents have an essential role of support for their wards and they should be actively involved in their child’s school as well as college experiences but at the same time allow them to grow and develop into self-advocates. He was speaking at a Anti-Drug campaign programme organised in Government High School, Pull Tawi where Nisha Nathyal SSP Traffic and senior advocate D C Raina were also present.
School children sang devotional songs and also presented a skit on drug abuse. The students, through their skit gave a message of staying away from drugs which was appreciated by the chief guest Yudhvir Sethi and other senior police officials. Speaking on the occasion, Yudhvir Sethi said that parents active involvement in day to say activities of their wards can help children stay away from drugs that are eating into vital of our Society.
He said several workers and in many cases wards of rich fall prey to menace of drugs for which entire society must keep an eye on such activities. This, he said should be an ongoing fight, and we cannot afford to be complacent. Regionally, the drug situation remains challenging, with drug production growing every year. We must remain on our guard and prevent drugs from coming in to our state.
SSP Traffic Nisha Nathyal said that while police is playing an active role in nabbing drug peddlers or even arresting drug-abusers parents still need to stay completely involved with their children in every sphere of life. She said, “We have come a long way in our fight against drugs. Our firm zero-tolerance stance and comprehensive approach to tackling drugs have worked well for us. We have kept our streets free from drugs, and our children safe from drugs and this effort will continue unabated”.
Later, former advocate general D C Raina said,” Preventive drug education should be first line of defence in the war against drugs. We must do more to enhance our existing efforts at the school and college level and if need arise a subject in this regard should be introduced in school curriculum’. By incorporating anti-drug programmes we can encourage students to make responsible decisions and keep a healthy lifestyle, he added.
The function ended with resolve and a pledge to jot to use drugs by the staff and students. The school has been adopted by Yudhvir Sethi who keeps involving students and staff in various activities to make them stay relevant in today’s world and keep their pace at larwith any other private institutions. Last year the BJP leader had donated desks in the school. Other who were present on the occasion Anju Dogra, Bittu Dogra, Sushil Sharma, Charnjeet Singh Rana vec members.
